Cautious Optimism: Re-Opening with a Purpose

These past few months have been among the most historically consequential in recent memory, and when the official history of the coronavirus is written, everyone in the St. Anthony’s Gardens community can feel good about how we rose to the occasion.

“The virus has been a tragedy for our entire world, particularly for seniors, but today we have much to be grateful for,” said Iris Blundell, Managing Director of St. Anthony’s Gardens. “Here in mid-June, it has been more than two months since we have seen a case in Assisted Living, nearly a month since we’ve had a case in memory care, and our Independent Living community has remained COVID-19 free.”

Iris continued, “I want to commend St.Anthony’s residents, families and staff for going above and beyond in making sacrifices for the safety of our community, and I send my heartfelt thanks to everyone.”

 A Cautious Approach
The leadership at St. Anthony’s is working with state and local health departments and monitoring all government guidelines for Opening America. While the state of Louisiana is in Phase 2, our community is taking a cautious and conservative approach to lifting restrictions, which include:

Recommended Shelter-in-Place
CDC, state and local guidelines still recommend those who are at a higher risk of severe illness should shelter in place. At St. Anthony’s we are not requiring self-quarantine within our independent living community, but we do recommend everyone continue to exercise caution and to leave the community for essential medical appointments only.

Dining
We know how important the social bonds of breaking bread together are. Our AL residents were delighted recently when we opened our AL dining room. Of course, we are maintaining social distance and proper infection control. Our plan is to open the IL dining room in the next few weeks.

Visitation and Essential Caregivers
Our Community remains closed to visitors but we do allow essential family caregivers to visit.

Mass, Group Activities, Gym & Amenities
We have started daily Mass and our gym, salon and medical clinic are now opened.  We’re exercising caution with a limited number of residents to maintain social distancing and masks are required at all times throughout the Community.

Move ins and Move outs
We have established safety protocols for moving in and moving out. We realize the importance of timely occupancy and have identified a couple moving companies that we have screened and approved for entrance to the Community. With the pre-approved moving companies, assistance from a limited number of family members and our staff cautiously monitoring all access, we are safely welcoming new residents.

A Look Ahead
Although we have started to lift restrictions, the threat of COVID-19 still exists, and everyone in our community is considering safety first to keep COVID-19 out of St. Anthony’s Gardens. As a not-for-profit organization rooted in the Catholic faith, community is at the heart of what we stand for, and we are grateful to everyone for the way we have all come together in this crisis.

We will continue to monitor theFederal and State guidelines and take a phased approach to re-opening St.Anthony’s Gardens. Check back here and contact us any time to learn more about our cautious re-opening.
